Tattoos we treat
Black and dark ink
Usually responds well, often fading steadily over the sessions.
Coloured tattoos
Different colours respond to different laser settings; some need more sessions.
Small tattoos and names
Lettering, dates and small designs on the wrist, hand, neck or ankle.
Large tattoos
Treated in sections, planned over several sessions.
Older tattoos
Older, faded ink often clears in fewer sessions than new ink.
Fading for a cover-up
Lightening a tattoo so a new design can cover it more easily.
What to expect
Consultation
The doctor checks the tattoo’s size, colours and depth, your skin type and health history, and plans the laser and number of sessions.
Preparation
The area is cleansed, eye protection is given, and cooling is used to keep you comfortable.
Laser session
Quick laser pulses are passed over the tattoo. Most sessions take a few minutes to around 30 minutes, depending on size.
Healing and fading
The ink fades gradually over the following weeks. Sessions are usually spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart to let the skin heal.
It often suits people who
- Want to remove or lighten an unwanted tattoo
- Want to fade a tattoo before a cover-up
- Can attend sessions spaced several weeks apart
- Will follow aftercare and protect the area from sun
It may not suit you if you
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a skin infection, open wound or a fresh tattoo in the area
- Have a history of keloid or raised scarring
- Take medicines that make the skin sensitive to light

Laser tattoo removal, answered
Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
Most people describe a quick snapping feeling, like a rubber band on the skin. Cooling is used during the session to keep you comfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the tattoo’s size, colours, ink depth and age, and on your skin type. Many tattoos need several sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. The doctor gives you an estimate after assessing your tattoo.
Can the tattoo be removed completely?
Many tattoos fade significantly, and some clear almost completely. Results vary, and some colours, such as green and light blue, are harder to remove. The doctor will tell you what is realistic for your tattoo.
What is the difference between Q-switched and picosecond lasers?
Both break up ink with very short pulses of energy. Picosecond pulses are even shorter and can help with stubborn or coloured ink. The doctor chooses the laser and settings for your tattoo.
Are there side effects?
Temporary redness, swelling, blistering or scabbing can occur and usually settle within days. Lightening or darkening of the skin can happen; following aftercare and avoiding sun exposure lowers the risk.
How much does it cost?
The cost depends on the tattoo’s size, colours and the number of sessions needed. A limited-time 50% discount is currently available — ask about it when you book your consultation.
